January 12, 1920 Dr. L. H. Pammel, Iowa State College, Dept of Botany, Ames, Iowa. My dear Dr. Pammel:-- I wish to thank you for your delightful letter of recent date. I am glad to know that you had the privilege of attending the American Association Meeting for the Advancement of Science held in St. Louis; it must have been very inspiring. I am always glad to hear of you getting away from Ames for a little while as more people should really know you and come in touch with you; it would be such an encouragement for those who are just beginning to enter the scientific field of life; a person as well equipped as yourself, does not know just what that means to the young boy or girl who is aspiring in that direction; you will never know in this world just what your life has meant to me. With kindest regards to Mrs. Pammel, I am, Yours most sincerely, G. W. Carver Director Dept of Research & Experiment Station. GWC/LM:
