April 10, 1928 Dr. L. H. Pammel Iowa State College Botany Department Station A Ames, Iowa My dear Dr. Pammel: I am delighted to get your good letter which has just reached me. Your visit here was indeed a great inspiration, and as I stated before, I was so glad to see Mrs. Pammel and you both so well. Mr. Romm was also pleased to hear from you and wishes to be remembered to you. I think it is his plan to return and complete his work. I want him to take just as many things under you as it is possible for him to do. I shall endeavor to find out who the student is to whom you refer as meeting in Montgomery. It is very pleasing to know that more and more people are rising up and calling you blessed from all over the country, because you have been and are such a guiding star to them. With sincerely good wishes, and kindest regards to Mrs. Pammel, I am Yours very truly G. W. Carver Department of Research and Experiment Station P.S. One of my new Amaryllis has flowered, a direct x between one of mine and Lilium Haririi. The color is exceedingly light exquisitely penciled with deep crimson. Two more bulbs of this same x are budded. Among my other crosses I am having some of the largest and finest amaryllis I have seen. From flaming scarlet to almost pure white.
