5 14 24 My dear Dr. Pammel: Here are three small samples of what is considered very strange and very remarkable plant products. All three are essentially the same, and when properly ground and mixed with linseed oil, driers etc. they become an intensely black paint. If mixed with the various vehicles used they become fine wood stains; indeed the China berry is said to make as fine a stain as the much prized, Nigrocene. When used as a water color they are a beautiful brown. They make fine dyes for wool etc. ranging in color from intense brown to the light tan shades. They are wonderfully pretty for bronzing wood. No.1. is made from rotten sweet potatoes. No.2. velvet beans. No. 3. China berry seed melia Azederach Yours very truly, Geo. W. Carver
