September 13, 1919 Dr. L. H. Pammel, Iowa State College, Department of Botany, Ames, Iowa. My dear Dr. Pammel:-- I wish to thank you for your good letter of recent date, and shall be sending you from time to time, packages of the specimen in question as soon as I can get to them. I thoroughly appreciate what you say with reference to the burdens that are thrust upon one as they grow older; for many years I have felt every year that next year will be easier for me, but instead it becomes more strenuous, responsibilities are greater and naturally the work multiplies. This has been a very hard summer, I had ten weeks of Summer School, some Chautauqua work and other matters on the outside; in fact I have just returned from Hot Springs, Arkansas where I met quite a large convocation of the Woodmen of Union and had quite a pleasant time there. With sincerely good wishes, I am, Yours very truly, G. W. Carver Director Dept of Research & Experiment Station
