4/24/23 Confidential My dear Dr. Pammel:-- For some months you have been on my mind more than ever. I hope you are well and that all is going well with you. My life has been crowded unusually full for some months, being out on lecture tours almost continuously since the 6th of Dec. The papers have been very liberal and even profuse in their write ups. The Atlanta papers, both the Constitution and the Journal carried elaborate write ups and my picture, I am enclosing one from the magazine section of the Journal. The St. Louis Globe Democrat carried a fine article and a much finer editorial comment. May issue of Popular Science monthly has a picture and an interesting write up. There is some talk (in the air only), of having one of our large colleges confer a Dr.s degree upon me. I do not covet this much from any Institution except Ames (I.S.C.) You giving me the start you did while there and continuing it through all the years I have been out. I have just been wondering if my Institution would not like to honor me and my race in this way. Of course if I am not worthy of it I do not want them to do it. Now as far as I individually am concerned, I am not so much interested but it would help and encourage my race greatly. Confidentially Dr. Pammel, what do you think of it. Please tell me frankly, I have always taken your advice, and always intend to. So I shall have no feeling about anything you say. Kindest regards to the family. Sincerely yours, Geo. W. Carver
