January, Thursday, 1. 1863 The weather warm and pl- easent went in to camp At Lafayette nothing transpired worth of note Started on a march at sundown marched 7 miles then ca- mped at a cornfield untill morning then packed our nap sacks three day rations and 40 round of cartriges Friday, 2 . Warm and cloudy at 2 o'clock we were ordered out in line of Battle marched out three miles to meet the Enemy Proved to be a false alarm We brought in to camp quite a lot of stock the Rebels burnt the bridge a- Crost the Tallahatchie river Saturday, 3. Went to (?) to guard a provision train rained all fore noon The news came today that our cavelry had a fight with prices army and we lost 40 killed before sun down we moved camp. January, Sunday, 4. 1863 Clear and warm went to Collierville started at sundown to Guard a train arrived at the (?) 9 o'clock stayed till morning the (?) being (?) the roads were (?) full muddy this day and (?) them likely (?) Monday, 5. Came back from Col- lierville and the reg was mustered for (?) Weather clear and warm went on the cars and helped load 13 cars with wood the cars starts th- rough for the first time A train of 22 cars (?) ward running on then breaks Tuesday, 6. Camp at Lafayette Cloudy all fore noon At 12 o'clock the sun Shone out in all its glory In camp at Lake (?) Tennessee January, Wednesday, 7. 1863 Clear and warm At 2 o'clock the 15th reg was ordered on the color line they then stacked arms (?) said that they expected to be attacked would by (?) that report was 4 thousand Cavelry was a bout 3 miles off this was the last of (?) Thursday, 8. Camp Lafayette, today is cloudy misty (?) (?) on camp guard the Boys has came back from Collierville we are on gard Every other Day But are wanting patie- ntley fore to come and (?) every day, the sa- rdean Boxes has a Good time Friday, 9. Warm and raining it is reported that we leave fore Memphis in a day or so Camp at Lafayette Tennessee nothing Worth of note transpi- red this day only considerabley stile put on by the sard- ean Boxes January, Saturday, 10. 1863 Warm and pleasant Co. E detailed to go on foreging after corn went on the woolf river the officers still continues putting stile two camp kettles of Sardean Boxes came Last night camp at Lafayette Tennessee Sunday, 11. Camp Lafayette close and warm under Orders all day to hold ourselves in readiness to march fore Memphis we packed our nap sacks but did not start this day but will start tomorrow if nothing happens Camp Lafayette Monday, 12.
